Energy

As the world struggles to maintains its requirements for fossil fuel, we have assisted several large EPC contractors to construct a variety of alternative energy plants across the UK.

Below are some of our previous projects within the renewables and technologies sector.

Project – Mercia waste Management Facility

Value – £6.7 million (Bunker Structure)

Brief – Using a mixture of both slip form and jump form technologies, we carried out the management of the construction of the full waste bunker and associated reinforced concrete structures.

When engaged in the project, the contractor’s program was substantially delay and with only 5 months to complete the structure to avoid being exposed to damages in his contract.

Caledonia formulated, implemented and carried out a construction process that completed the top bunker wall in 4 months to facilitate the installation of the process equipment and remove the bunker from the critical path of the project. This reduced the contractor’s exposure to damages and allowed the bottom bunker to be constructed after the main bunker wall.

Project – Glasgow waste recovery centre

Value – £150 million

Brief – Situated on the south side of Glasgow city,  the newly constructed waste recovery centre was the first time 3 sperate renewable technologies were incorporated into the one plant.

These technologies enable the plant to recover waste fuel, generate power from the incineration of  this fuel, and run also run a CHP engine utilising gas yielded from the anaerobic digestion tanks.

Caledonia assisted with the management of the full civil and building works related to the construction of a new energy from waste plant in central Scotland. We provided support over an 18-month period delivering a budget of £45 million for the civils and building works.
