With government initiatives focusing on the reduction of city centre carbon emissions, several high profile rail schemes are currently underway.

Caledonia provided several services on London Blackfriars, which at the time of construction was the highest value project in Europe.

Project – Blackfriars Rail Bridge Central London)

Value – £980 million

Brief – Upgrading the decaying Victorian Blackfriars station in central London, Caledonia were contracted to provide engineering and management services to construct a new interim station over the river Thames on the newly increase bridge deck.

The existing bridge, which suffered substantial bomb damage during WW2, was doubled in width to provide room for a new bay platform and to extended the existing platform length to allow for 12 carriage trains to safely load and unload passengers.

A new structural steel canopy and rain screen glass walls were then constructed to create a new interim station with viewing east and west of the Thames.
